Requirements

Statutory modification

Under the normal circumstances, an individual is required to get IEC modification online once a year as per the import-export laws.

Voluntary modification

In case of any error in IEC is detected or a change is required in the Import-Export code, IEC modification is to be done immediately.

In case, the address of a business firm is changed, it should be immediately updated through the IEC modification online process.

Change in the Company Name.

If there is an addition/Deletion of a PAN in a business firm or addition/Deletion of a Partner/Director in a company, it should be updated.

OVERVIEW

IEC Code is unique 10 digit code issued by DGFT – Director General of Foreign Trade , Ministry of Commerce, Government of India to Indian Companies.Full From of IEC Code is “Importer Exporter Code ”. To import or export in India, IEC Code is mandatory. No person or entity shall make any Import or Export without IEC Code Number.

Filing of Application

Every application for an Import/Export licence/ certificate/ Authorization/ permission or any other purpose should be complete in all respects as required under the relevant provisions of the Policy/Procedures and shall be signed by the applicant as defined in paragraph 9.9 of the Policy. An incomplete application is liable to be rejected giving specific reason for rejection.

1. What are the documents required for IEC code?

The required documents needed for IEC modification include-
PAN of an individual/ business for which IEC was issued,
Valid e-mail id. & mobile number of the individual.

2. How much time it takes to update modification on DGFT portal?

It takes about 7-10 days to update the details on DGFT portal. Once updated a fresh IEC certificate shall be issued by DGFT.

3. How to go about IEC code in case of an LLP or company?

In case of a public/private limited company, Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) or One Person Company (OPC), first we need to make the changes in IEC code on the Ministry Of Corporate Affairs (MCA) portal, and then the changes can be made on the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) portal.

4. What if any wrong detail is entered while Import Export Code registration?

As per the new system, Regulatory Authorities (RAs) are now authorised to conduct post-verification of the new import export code. In case of any wrong information is entered while IEC registration, the applicant will be liable for legal prosecution. In such case, the import-export code is likely to be suspended or cancelled.

5. How to avoid suspension or cancellation of IEC in case of wrong information?

In case any wrong information is found in the IEC, the import-export code can be suspended or cancelled. The only way to prevent such awkward situation is to timely file for IEC modification.
